Learn MoreIn early February, Dr. Carlson and Dr. Anderson led the Lions of Michigan Vision Mission team on a week-long mission trip. It marked their 21st and 41st mission trips, respectively. Alongside a team of 13 members, they travelled to Suriname, located on the northern coast of South America. During the trip, the team conducted four days of clinics in the cities of Paramaribo, Wanica, and Brokopondo. In total, they examined approximately 1,900 individuals and distributed 1,735 pairs of eyeglasses, readers, and sunglasses. Additionally, many individuals were referred for cataract and/or glaucoma care.

At Carlson Eye Care, community care is at the heart of our mission. Dr. Carlson and Dr. Anderson are dedicated members of the Grand Rapids Lions Club for many decades now, leading numerous outreach efforts. They, along with fellow Lions Club International members and affiliated foundations, organize mission trips to places like Jamaica, Mexico, Central America, and South America, providing vital eye health screenings.
During these trips, community members receive comprehensive assessments, glasses if needed, and referrals for further care if eye health issues are detected. Driven by compassion, we’re committed to extending our expertise beyond our clinic, ensuring everyone has access to quality eye care, regardless of their circumstances.
